El Vergel, Columbia (Sugarcane DECAF)

Sugarcane decaffeination utilizes a naturally occurring compound, ethyl acetate (EA) to decaffeinate coffee. The EA used in this process is derived from molasses (a byproduct of sugar production). Being a naturally-occurring product, the process is labeled as “naturally decaffeinated.” The green coffee beans are submerged into a tank filled with water and EA to begin the Decaf process. The EA naturally bonds with the compounds of the coffee, allowing for decaffeination to occur.
