"Tula" is the second and most famous novel of the writer Jurgis Kunčinas (1947-2002), written in Vilnius in 1991. and was first published in 1993. 10000 copies circulation. Literary expert Jūratė Sprindytė drew attention to such exceptional features of Kunčin's prose as its liveliness, spontaneity, sensualism: "Lithuanian prose of such liveliness has always been lacking. She was constantly committed to some big goal". Fatal love, the grayness of the Soviet era covering the streets of Vilnius, an intelligent young man oppressed by anxiety and sadness - J. Kunčina's novel was formed from such images. In "Tula" the topography of the city is very consistently based on it - infrastructure, culture are mentioned and described objects, private spaces. The most important areas of the story are Užupis and Senamiestis. The hero enters the Jerusalem neighborhood by chance, visits an unexpectedly met friend and ex-wife in Antakalni. The border of Roman Vilnius passes through Jerusalem, the Minsk highway, the end of Filaretų street and the aspirants' dormitory at the end of Gediminas avenue. In the novel, a lot of attention is paid to the marginalized spaces of the city: the cemetery, the insane asylum, the prison. The narrator's favorite places are cafes and restaurants: "Alumnat's Yard", "Bačka", "Neringa", "Rotonda", "Daina", "Exhibition Palace Cafe". Bohemian Vilnius stands in opposition to the authorities. Natural objects play an important role in "Tula": Neria, Vilnela, Bekeš mountain, Olandų street forests. While reading the novel "Tula", readers go on a journey around Vilnius together with a sad young man, recognizing the streets, cafes, people they often meet, until during the play scene falls into the purgatory of anxiety and fatalistic feeling. "Tula" is a crashing wave of generous impossible love, a novel of loneliness, wandering and anxiety, a sad photograph of an already smoldering order. According to Jūratė Sprindytė, Jurgis Kunčina's story is mildly naturalistic and harshly poetic.
